CNN currently has video up of an interview with three Duke University students refuting claims by FEMA that no one could reach the people stranded at the Convention Center in New Orleans. They drove to New Orleans from NC, hoping to do anything to help. When they got to the city, they found officials blocking every way in saying that the roads were flooded or damaged or otherwise impassable. They later found a press pass, which they scanned and photoshopped into fake credentials and returned to the city. There they presented their passes and were let through. What happened next amazed them.
Contrary to what they had been told, the road was completely passable. In fact, without knowing the city at all, they drove to the Convention Center in under twenty minutes in a Hyundai. On the way, they passed bus after empty bus - going the other direction, away from the city. WTF?
What they want to know, and we do too, is why did FEMA make those people wait day after day, for helicopters, dying from lack of food and water, when it was easy enough to drive directly there. And why were buses driving away from the city, empty?
[Update]: (Not sure how long it will be there, but as of 2pm 9/7 the video is on the main CNN page at the top. When it drops below the fold, the name of the video is "Road trip for relief" so you can go to the video section and browse for it. Sorry I can't provide a direct link - it's stuck behind a java script.)
