This will be short and sweet. First, everyone here knows that it was written in official FEMA and government documents that the feds had ultimate responsibility to respond to this disaster IMMEDIATELY; the lies absolving the feds have been blasted here many times. But there is another reason I have not heard discussed.
The local authorities were also victims.
Police cars were carried off by the waters. Equipment and supplies were inundated. MOST of the New Orleans police officers and local responders had just lost lost their families and their homes. Gas stations and hospitals with much-needed medical assistance were rendered useless by 20 feet of water. There was no electricity. No gas. No lights. An area of 90,000 square miles was completely devastated.
AND THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION EXPECTED THOSE LOCALS TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM THEMSELVES.
