Yes I know that its not likely to get printed, its not meant to.
I am completely disgusted by Charles Krauthammer's article today. Most of it is factually wrong but his parting shot to Mayor Nagin and the heroes who have worked this disaster for nearly 24 hours a day 14 days straight who need some R&R and are receiving it by mini vacations to Las Vegas is just too much to take and deserves the disgust of the nation.
His attempt to incite ill will to-wards these people is abhorrent to the point of making me want to puke. The continued practice of editorialist's of the right to divide and incite ill will to-wards people has got to stop and it needs to stop now otherwise we'll never get this country back again!
Article below!
Cynthia,
I sent in another letter concerning the Charles Krauthammer article today, however I feel it is warranted to express my complete disgust with your paper printing his article today directly with you.
He demonized Ray Nagin because he called for assistance in providing some R&R for city employees who have been working nearly 24 hours a day for 14 days straight and that the Mayor and citizens of Las Vegas responded to the call. This is clearly in order to keep these heroes from burning out completely as they have to begin the terrible emotional ordeal of searching for dead friends, family members and citizens of their once great city after already going through the hell of the past 14 days. His last statement attributable to Ray Nagin of "New Orleans is a party town. Get over it" in response to questions about this, appears to have been made up completely as it cannot be found in any reputable news source that I can find.
There are a lot of articles out there about how this was a humanitarian gesture of relief for these poor souls and it should have been cited as such. Charles engaging in such blatant demagoguery by creating ill feelings against these people, Mayor Nagin and Las Vegas in this time of crisis should warrant his firing not his praise, much less you printing this particular article. I have never been more disgusted with Charles than his article today.
Once again the federal government fails totally in their mandate to govern and once again they and their apologists demonize and place the blame squarely on the people who stand up and execute in the face of their failures for their failures.
Your newspaper has a duty to the citizens of the United States first and foremost and your editorialists, whom many of the citizens look up to should operate at a much higher level than has been the discourse over the last few years.
It is up to you the editorial page editor's of the nations newspapers to bring the discourse back into the factual realm and eliminate its apparent desire to separate the people.
Perhaps a good place for all of you to start is by reading and re-reading federalist #10 and the dangers of faction in a democracy and why is is of utmost importance not to fan the flames of them.
