Since I first saw
Kos's post on October 31 about former Secretary of the Navy and
Iraq war critic James Webb considering a challenge to George Allen as a Democrat, I've had the opportunity to read a lot of what he's written in recent years, and I've come to the conclusion that we would be a strong challenger.
To begin building support from the netroots, we've set up:
DraftJamesWebb.com
We're a group of Virginia Democrats who are trying to encourage James Webb to run for George Allen's Senate seat in 2006 -- he's seriously considering it at this point, and is expected to decide before the end of January. The Virginia race doesn't appear to be at the top of the
DSCC's priority list, so we believe
it's critical to demonstrate that we can generate interest, and financial support, from the blogosphere.
To find out more about James Webb, check out his website, and my previous posts:

Fighting Smart: James H. Webb, Jr.
If you think he'd make a strong candiate against George Allen, please consider making a contribution pledge -- nothing binding about this, and we are not collecting funds. We're just trying to demonstrate that potential support is available should he decide to run -- and we're going to pass the data from our site along to Webb, which hopefully will help convince him to run.
Also, consider telling your friends and family about this effort.
