There's a lot of talk about the Abramoff scandal, and what it means for Democratic strategy, but very little of it mentions the American Indian tribes that are the direct victims of Abramoff and his Republicans. The Indian tribes that were bilked of millions by Abramoff deserve their money back, of course, but that's not going to happen. The Republicans are trying to demonstrate their integrity by giving the money charities that they already agree with,
none of which have a damn thing to do with Indian tribes.
It would demonstrate the good faith that the Republicans lack for the Democrats to attempt to introduce legislation relating to the concerns of these tribes. It would be the right thing to do, and let me demonstrate by own bit of callousness by pointing out that it would play very well as a highlight of the Republicans' scandal. It could even be called something like the "Abramoff Act".
If the Republicans can't be bothered to repay the money that they stole by responding to the concerns of their victims, let the Democrats do it.
