I discovered Howard Dean after the "What I Want to Know" speech. He was a breath of fresh air in a stale party. Back in those days I don't think he really thought he could be president. He just wanted to help change the direction of the party. I believed he could be president and many here did. We, the little people, help propel him into front runner. Of course, it didn't work out the way I wanted it. One thing Dean said over and over was that we first had to take back our party before we could take back our country.
When Dean lost the primaries, he didn't pack up his bags and go home. He worked hard for the next year to elect Democrats. Why? Because he knows that the future of the country lies there. Obviously, he is not thrilled with many of them and much of what goes on but it is easier to take back the Democratic party than to create a new one. Dean has stuck by his commitment to retake the party and is doing his part at the top of the structure.
We have an inside man at the very top. We have to do our part. We can start at the bottom and meet him part way there. This does require you to step away from the keyboard and attend some meetings. Are you active in your local Democratic party? Are you a precinct officer? A member of the executive committee? What are you doing to take back the party in your county?
Just as it takes a while to burn off extra pounds packed on over years this is going to take a commitment from you. If everyone put in the fraction of the effort that Dean is, we will be on the right track shortly.
