Lately some people on DKos have been whining about the "whining" going on regarding the Alito confirmation. Some have even gone so far as to suggest that people on the left, who are dissatisfied with the Democratic Party should cease letting their opinion be known on Dailykos. We on the left do not need to leave this forum or this party, the centrists do. It is precisely because of these clowns that this country is in the predicament it is now. One can't blame the GOP; you can't get angry at a snake for biting you.
What has happened, has happened because organizations like the DLC so weakened the party and allowed those transparent idiots in the GOP to set the agenda and define us. The party abandoned its base and its base, in turn, abandoned it. In the recent past, the extraordinarily short sighted "leadership" of the Democratic Party has sold this country down the river because of the lure of corporate money and "pay to play" politics. The party has failed miserably because of these so called moderate Dems who rightfully belong on the other side of the aisle. There is no well defined opposite to the GOP. Now, it's time to fight back. Filibuster Alito and tell the press and the American people why we're doing it. Make the GOP play defense. Scream from the rooftops that Bush needs to be impeached now because of his War Crimes, his lying and his spying! Get those that voted for the War to admit that they were extensively lied to, and renounce the War in Iraq. Those that had the foresight to see through the bullshit and vote against the War should be elevated. Stop pretending to care about our base and actually do things and outline policy to help the American people, regardless of how upset the insurance companies and other corporations get. Throw caution to the wind. End the dominion of Corporations. Stop reacting to polls and actually lead the party and the people toward higher ideals. To see how useless polls are, realize that at one time polls showed that a majority of Americans agreed with segregation! Looking at polls is no way to lead a once great nation. The Democratic Party needs to decide to lead a movement for the people away from war and corporate interests. No matter how radical the corporate owned media accuses us of being. If that were to happen, I guarantee people would flock to the cause and those poll numbers would swing 180 degrees. Besides, what's the alternative: keep going along like we have. Letting shameless hacks like Karl Rove and Tom Delay play to the baser instincts in our political culture. Letting Frank Luntz establish the lexicon for the "debates" on the very real issues. That sure has been successful.
