I'm Bill Winter and I'm running for Congress in Colorado against Tom Tancredo.
I know a lot of people want to know what I stand for, so let me go ahead and tell you right now.
When they come to take away women's rights, they're gonna find me standing in the door and I'm going to say NO!
And when they come to destroy labor and cripple the unions, they're gonna find me standing in the door and I'm going to say NO!
And when they try to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the middle class while they give tax cuts to the rich, they're gonna find me standing in the door and I'm going to say NO!
And when they come to attack homosexuals and take away their rights, they're gonna find me standing in the door and I'm going to say NO!
And when they come to try and tear down the wall of separation between church and state, they're gonna find me standing in that door too, and I'm going to say what is it that you don't understand? The answer is NO!
Anywhere that someone tries to take way freedom and tear down the Constitution, and anywhere that someone tries to beat up on the weak, I'm gonna stand up and fight back!
I'm gonna stand up for the poor and the unrepresented and I'm gonna stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves. I'm gonna stand up for the middle class, and for small businesses, and by god, I'm gonna stand up for YOU!
How many of you reading this have kids? And how many of you would give anything for your kids, to give them a better life and a shot at the American Dream? Well I'm going to Washington to fight for your kids, and to fight for a future where they CAN find the American Dream. What would a future like that be worth to you?
In New York harbor there's a statue of a proud lady carrying a torch. On the base of that statue is an inscription, and here's what it says:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
THAT'S the America I believe in. THAT'S the America I gave ten years of my life to protect! That's an America built on greatness, not fear. An America so strong that it doesn't have to fear refugees. An America where freedom, justice, and equality are essential characteristics for EVERY human being!
