These are frustrating and confusing times. Bin Laden is alive. Or is he? Was that really him on the tape? Is the government just trying to keep us in fear? Is it bad for Bush if he is alive? Or did Bush record the tape himself? After all, he does some pretty good impersonations...
What about Hillary? Is she our best shot in 2008, or has she already shot herself in the foot?
How 'bout dem Dems? Weak and powerless or bold and scrappy? Should we continue to support them or form the Kos Orange party?
Gore's speech--Best oration since the Gettysburg Address or political posturing?
Here's a big one: What about the war? Should we get the hell out of there and save our boys from dying in a helicopter crash or roadside ambush? Or should we double our presence there and finish the job?
Alito? Is there anything we can do to keep him from being affirmed?
Obama? Chance in hell red states would ever vote for him?
John Kerry? Was that really him posting yesterday? Should we praise him or flame him?
Impeachment? Can we make it happen be sticking millions of stickers in public bathrooms all over the country? Do we really want Cheney in charge? Is he already in charge?
Global warming? Are we to blame or is it just solar flares?
Brokeback Mountain? Best movie of the year or was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang better?
Dogs or cats? Stones or Beatles? Vanilla Village or Chocolate City?
The end of the world? Is it really coming soon?
Great news. I have it all figured out. And believe it or not, every single question posed above has one easy answer: Take action.
Simply do something. I have found that even a small, simple act on my part lessens my anger, removes my frustration and gives me my power back--as long as the action is positive. There's some amazing alchemy at work when you do a little work that's in line with Universal energy (which in my experience is all supportive of peace, love, truth and positive action).
Everyday I woke up sick, angry and frustrated. The mere sight of Bush would make me physically ill. Then I took a series of simple actions that led to creating my dove magnets and peacepositive.net. Getting 400 magnets on cars across the country and donating $500 to charity are very small achievements, but they give me inner peace. Now I'm no longer frustrated and only get a little nauseous when I see his mug on TV.
So right now, just do the next right thing. Tell your child you love them. Eat a vegetable. Turn off the TV and take a walk in nature. Send Harry Reid a supportive note. Post a constructive diary. Recommend someone else's. Put a positive message of peace on your car. Put a link to My Left Wing or the Peace Merchants Association on your website. Pray for peace. Meditate. Heck, you know what to do. But please do it. Don't just think about it.
Will an action on your part bring about peace and harmony? Maybe not on the timetable we'd all like. But consider the alternative...
