If Stephen Harper's Conservatives win the Canadian election tonight then Stockwell Day is touted to be the next Foreign Minister. He's a man of little learning who became Minister of Education. He's a creationist who believes men walked the earth with dinosaurs.
Because David Frum wrote Yassar Arafat had AIDS, Stockwell Day spoke against sending condolences at the time the Palestinian's death.
Stephen Harper's greatest achievement has been keeping the cork in Stock's mouth (and those of his other wingnuts too). Make no mistake, if Harper is elected he's a Bush guy. The Conservatives have consulted with the Republicans about strategy going back to the 1970's. As a bonus there's a link to comedian Rick Mercer's thoughts on a Conservative cabinet. You can't make this up!
Stockwell Day taught at a Christian school with curriculum that said democratic governments "represent the ultimate deification of man, which is the very essence of humanism and totally alien to God's word." Why waste your time in public office Stock? It is beneath you.

Note too that he's one of Conrad Black's boys, yes that Conrad Black, who's gonads are about to receive a gentle pressing by the ever diligent Mr. Fitzgerald.
There are strong ties between these Conservatives and the worst of your Republicans. Did I mention David Frum, oh yeah. Both Stockwell Day and Stephen Harper come from the Texas of the North, Alberta.

>Alberta politics took a very peculiar turn after 1993, even by usual standards. Government members took freely to musing about such things as hanging children convicted of capital offences, setting up boot camps, and banning books. Cabinet ministers pulled imaginary studies and statistics out of their hats to justify privatizing or cutting services. Policy was made on the fly, in part because planning was considered "stupid." Moreover, these things happened largely with impunity and without scrutiny. Legislative sessions were shortened. Indeed, the fall 1997 sitting of the legislature was eliminated entirely in favour of a summit of "stakeholders" hand-picked by the government. Ralph Klein was above criticism. With few exceptions, the press, led by Conrad Black's Calgary Herald and the Byfield-family's Alberta Report, acted as compliant cheerleaders. Klein, his cabinet ministers, and the press regularly denounced those few who dared raise questions as whiners, communists, and just downright "un-Albertan." The result was a political culture in which members of the province's cosy and self-congratulatory political class were protected from the real rough and tumble of competitive politics. This class's sense of having created a "new politics" of free enterprise and smaller government exportable to the rest of Canada was reinforced after 1995 when, benefitting from surging oil and gas revenues, Alberta's fiscal situation quickly brightened. The deficits disappeared, suddenly replaced by a series of mounting surpluses. Such was the political culture that nurtured Stockwell Day and his political ambitions.<

So while we settle in for some fun tonight let's turn to comedian and political commentator Rick Mercer for his view of who might be in the Conservative cabinet. Mercer once ran a non-binding referendum that received thousands of votes asking Stockwell Day to change his name to Doris Day. Check out parliamentarian Rob Anders who refused to honour Nelson Mandela on his visit to Ottawa because "Nelson Mandela is a terrorist".

For years my wife and I kept on our refrigerator a newspaper clipping of a story about Stockwell Day's wife. She called the local fire department asking them to help put out a neighbour's fire. The fire department couldn't respond because their subdivision didn't pay for fire service. Some tax savings just aren't worth it are they Stock?
