The argument over abortion is a divisive one. As strong as our moral arguments are, the thought of snuffing out a life (possibly) is often too strong for social conservatives to overcome.
However, the fiscal conservatives tend to lean on this topic. For these folks, I've run across an argument that has at least gotten them to seriously consider their stance on abortion.
The argument is this: The founding fathers would have supported it.
Why is that, you ask?
The Founding Fathers held 3 major ideals when founding this country: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. These are powerful statements, and as shown by the words of Patrick Henry and the fact that these men were willing to risk life for liberty, Life and Liberty are at least equal, and many would say that Liberty is the greater of these 3 tenets.
So how do you get through to the pro-life/anti-choice crowd? Bring this up. Liberty is so important that influential men with comfortable lives were willing to put their pursuit of happiness and their lives on the line for it.
The same argument applies to abortion rights. The liberty of the mother would be infringed if Roe w. Wade was overturned, at the expense of a life that still may not come to be, due to natural miscarriage and other dangers.
It's a simple argument that carries great weight, and should be put to good use.
