This diary will be short and to the point.
Slurs are not tags.
Here's an example of using a slur (inappropriately) as a tag (as of the writing of this diary, the diary in question had used the word "bitch" as a tag):
[ diary link removed as the diarist has voluntarily edited the diary title and removed the inappropriate tag -- the issue is not the diarist or the diarist's diary, but the meta-issue of tags ]
Get as ranty as you want in your diary.
Even if, in the diary, one winds up using racial slurs or gender slurs or what have you, when a diarist starts using words that have +nothing+ to do with categorization but that are incendiary -- good gravy -- there's no leg left to stand on, regardless of how one might want to hide behind "freedom of expression" or "language expression."
Bottom line: tags should 1) be proper reflections of categories and issues; 2) tags should not be an expression of a ranter's inability to express him or herself properly in a diary.
Lastly, we've got a lot of good people reading diaries who are willing to call slurs when they see them in a diary. This is just a heads up to keep a look out for inappropriate tags as well, as I think we're all seeing an increased incidence of inappropriate tags, be they slurs or no.
