Tomorrow the august New York Times will publish a story that backs Bush's defense of his illegal spy program. The story written by By Eric Lichtblau and Adam Liptak starts with this:
But if nothing else, legal and political analysts say, Bush administration officials appear to have succeeded in framing the legal debate on their own terms and daring critics of the National Security Agency operation to prove them wrong.
And no one helps the administration on the frame job better than these two.
Aside from the initial lines, the story goes on to quote the illustrious John Yoo, as well as a law professor put forward by the administration to make their case, and if that wasn't enough, they also quote "John R. Schmidt, a former Justice Department official in the Clinton administration," and to top it all off Liptak and Lichtblau throw in this:
Some liberals, on the other hand, said the administration's arguments have substantial force.
Finally, if you haven't had enough of the administration's bull shit, there is this, from the DoJ's rebuttal to the accusation that it is allowing the president to break the law:
The first "myth" listed: "The N.S.A. program is illegal."
Sure there is some lipservice paid to the opposition viewpoint, you know, that the president is breaking the law and violating the Constitution, but it sure gets lost as the authors help make the administration's case.
So much for the liberal media.
