In urging the Senate to consider Bush's FISA violations and other "imperial-unitary executive" actions, re filibustering Alito, it may be instructive to ponder recent governmental actions re Google, "the globe's premier Internet search engine".
In
"Google to censor itself in China" (1/26/06), CNN notes
Internet search engine Google has rolled out a China-based version of its popular Web site -- one that bows to Beijing's censorship laws and will edit the content of its results.
...Previously, the Beijing government blocked the results of search requests that violated its regulations. The new Google site will self-censor based on Chinese law.
...Google's cooperation with the Chinese government comes on the heels of the company's resistance to a U.S. Justice Department subpoena, asking Google to turn over a week's worth of search results.
The request is part of a case designed to protect children from Internet porn.
Google said the government query "overreaches."
Has anyone noticed that the American government is BEING
MORE INTRUSIVE THAN THE CHINESE ONE? at least in some ways, and especially considerning Google's degree of resistance. (I.e., since Google is resisting the U.S. government pressure more, that pressure is deemed in some way more intrusive or coercive than the Communist Chinese pressure/censorship.) Does this set off a red flag (so to speak) for anyone, including lovers of liberty?
So, in speaking to your senators and the media, you may want to emphasize that confirming FISAlito (as one could call Alito, seeing he would abrogate judicial responsibility, for the FISA court or the Supreme Court, to rein in the executive), they would be degrading American freedom to a level that might resemble the Red Chinese.
Wiretapping, e-mail tapping, request for Google search results...when will the Bush Administration stop? Not with a toady lickspittle like FISAlito on the court. If America is becoming more like China in some bad ways ("ChinAmerica Syndrome") and democracy is melting down, surely our Senators must filibuster Alito to stop this. Let them know today! and tomorrow as well!
God bless America. And liberty under law. And you too.
