This is "part II" of a diary entitled
Disgusting CNN
I wrote back in October. As that was a fairly short diary, I ask that my dear readers skim over it for a moment before proceeding.
To my surprise, CNN significantly changed the wording of the first story about 30 min. after I made my October post. Of course, as much as I would like to pat myself on the back, I have no idea if it was myself or just some other journalist at CNN with a head on his/her shoulders who looked at the story and said "What a load of crap... either don't put my name under it or change it!".
It was probably the latter... about two weeks ago, I saw a similar story; rushed to put it into a diary (with comments on various points)- only to see the story completely reformulated and replaced just as I was about to hit "submit". Having saved everything, here is an excerpt of what I wrote, then:
It should be mentioned that I have nothing against journalism that gives its own opinion on a particular story- regardless of whether the story is front-paged or in an editorial. For example, the German newspaper TAZ is highly regarded as being to the left of the political spectrum, but is still widely read/successful: most people (who hopefully also get their new from different sources) choose to read it precicely because they wish to know the left's opinion on issues. It's the "subliminal messaging journalism" with which I disagree.
Its current title -with a little elf (apparently representing a foreign national) flipping the readers off- is Megaflop Immigration and mentions that highly trained foreign experts no longer enter Germany at an average rate of 2,200/year but at 900/year- so something must be wrong with the government's immigration policy (I agree, it sucks.).
Can't seem to find the link to that TAZ page anymore... here's a link to its current news page:

The (humorous) title, again concerning the job market, is "Now, even the shitty jobs are already... occupied (where "occupied" = "besetzt").
Anyway, it seems CNN certainly has "learned it's lesson". Check out it's current headline story:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. air strikes in Bayji north of Baghdad killed six members of a single family, Wamir abd el-Wahab, a spokesman for the Salah ad-Din provincial governor's office, said Tuesday.
What's with BBC?

Several members of the same family, including women and children, have been killed in a US air strike that destroyed their home in northern Iraq.
What, no reference to the "Iraqi official"? (No further comments.)
