Aside from the duty of enforcing laws and enforcing the territorial integrity of our country, illegal border jumping (as an immigrant, I refuse to call it "immigration", it's anything but.) has the potential to undercut the GOP and expose them as out of touch frauds.
We know Americans are dead against foreigners sneaking across the border and we know the Bush Administration is beholden to it's business sponsors.
This is a perfect opportunity to exploit the detachment that the GOP leadership has from the masses.
And it is also an excellent opportunity to highlight the hypocrisy of the Right by showing how they are big on bluster but MIA when it is time for action.
Bush has committed troops to protecting the borders of Iraq. But what of America's borders?
Some talking points:
- Bush made a big hue and cry of protecting America and Homeland Security. What security has his Administration achieved when some poor Mexican villager can cross the border easily, any given day? Obviously, a committed terrorist group can get in too.
- The Republicans criticized Kerry as putting American interests subservient to those of the UN.
Well, this picture tells you all about how beholden Bush is to Fox:
Fox is the same guy who's government has been encouraging Mexicans to cross illegally into our country, break our laws and assault the integrity of our borders. The Mexican government publishes manuals for crossing into the US illegally and Bush shakes hands with their President? Isn't he a traitor?
Instead of giving him the "you are with us or against us" line, Bush has decided to let Fox run American policy by proxy.
Hammer on the fact that Republicans are detached from the needs and demands of the American people on the issue of illegal border crossings.
3. While Bush has deployed our forces protecting Iraqi borders from insurgents, we have illegals coming here and killing our cops:
The officer's girls are fatherless and his wife is a widow. And what is Bush and the Republican party doing?
This is the ugly face of illegal border jumping that Republicans don't want to talk about! And they have the nerve to talk of liberals putting American interests under the UN?!
If this doesn't make you mad, what will?
This is one significant issue where Democrats can take the initiative and turn it on the Republicans. There is a deep sense of dissatisfaction in the country regarding the government's inaction and this will be an issue that will win popular support.
Push your representatives to push for sealing of the border. Once the waves are stopped, action can be taken against businesses employing these illegals.
