The reason for this diary is my growing interest in absentee voting and specifically permanent absentee voting.
I have yet to look at the statistics, but I don't question the idea that those who get absentee ballots are more likely to vote than election-day voters. And simply getting people to vote absentee means you get more votes.
Permanent absentee voting, in the states it's available, allows a voter to get a ballot automatically mailed to them each election. As long as they don't move residences, they never have to send another request in.

And as a campaign worker/volunteer, once you've gotten someone to sign up perm absentee in one campaign, you've not only helped your campaign, but every Dem campaign that comes after it. Subsequent campaigns can focus on the remaining voters who have yet to register permanent absentee. And that makes it a great tool to help build the party for the long term.
After learning about this valuable tool, I was struck by how uneducated I was about it. It's available in my state, and I had no clue. Am I the only one?
Take the poll, and if you have any thoughts about the subject, please share. To my knowledge, this hasn't been diaried about before, so chip in your two cents..
(fyi, my next diary will have some state-by-state info on permanent absentee voting)
