(Disclaimer: first-time entry, please be gentle with me as I beg forgiveness in advance for any faux pas'. Would have posted one of those fancy links - I love the clever trick of the highlighted word directing you to a story - but am ignorant of the how-to.)
Jeez, some folks give reasonable Louisianans a bad rap. The following is a "Readers' Views" letter in today's Baton Rouge Advocate. From a teacher. She doesn't mention a teacher of what; could be seeing-eye dogs for all I know, but I'm guessing kids.
At any rate, it could just be me (and I can accept that), but were I a parent, I would not want this woman educating MY kids.
Yes, I responded. With my former married name; my OxyRush-listening-O'Falafel-watching father reads the paper daily, and at 77, I'd prefer to NOT give him another stroke. The first one was bad enough. Don't know if my response will be published, but she pissed me off and I had to say something. If you feel compelled to write a response to the paper, their address is: 2theadvocate.com.
Had enough of my rambling? Yeah, me too. The letter's below:
Democrat in support of President Bush
As a registered Democrat, my New Year's resolution this year is simple: to do everything in my power to unseat the Democrats in Congress who have betrayed our country during a time of war.
They know full well they are playing right into our enemy's hands, and don't care, because they think we the party faithful are stupid enough to believe it's more important to end the Bush administration than it is to end the war on Islamic terror.
Osama bin Laden has repeatedly stated in his fatwas that the terrorists won't have to defeat us -- we will defeat ourselves. John Kerry's sickening lies about our noble fighting men and women in Iraq (gleefully broadcast on al-Jazeera), congressmen weeping over the PATRIOT Act and President Bush's terrorist surveillance -- both of which have prevented repeats of the 9-11 attacks -- and the self-flagellation over the "mistreatment" of our prisoners of war (who are given complimentary Korans, a healthy diet, and are learning to read on the taxpayers' dime) are all proof that the Democrats are rushing to prove him right.
Well, this is one Democrat who's not going to let them off without a public denunciation for their cowardice and their treason: Anyone willing to give aid and comfort to our enemy during a time of war can obviously not be trusted to manage that war -- and we will remember that in 2008. Meanwhile, President Bush has the courage and commitment to fight not just terrorists, but their ideas -- and we Democratic patriots are going to do everything in our power to help him do it.
Let's hope 2006 is the year our country wakes up and remembers that we're in the middle of World War III -- and that that's a tad more important than partisan politics.
