What has become of the Fourth Estate? From the repeated failures of the New York Times (Judith "Miss Run Amok" Miller's cheerleading for the war, Editors holding ILLEGAL wiretapping story during the election) to the amazing discovery of poor people in New Orleans and the reports of violence being perpetrated by those same poor people to yesterdays astounding blunder in West Virginia. Apparently the only thing it takes to have a career in journalism is a willingness to look the other way when corporations decide the story is bad for the bottom line. It's all just so sad. Now this from the AP:
Okay so far, aside from the horrible decision by the court to green light the administration. But then we get this:
The former Chicago gang member was arrested at Chicago's O'Hare Airport and put in military custody, where he was held without charges and traditional legal rights.
What's this! How exactly do you go all the way through college and get a degree in journalism without gaining even a basic understanding of civics? How can you sit down to write an article about the Supreme Court fail to research the issue. How is it possible that this woman's' editor allowed the word traditional where the word INALIENABLE belongs. Perhaps the editor was just doing as he/she was told and furthering the attack on our civil rights.
Despite the beliefs of this administration and their corporate overseers, our civil rights are not granted by the state. They are inalienable rights that cannot be abridged by the state or even the "Commander In Chief". At least, that's what it says in the document that he's sworn to uphold.
