caveat - this isn't Boston related, but I thought it sounded cool
I have long admired the skillful organizers and "party people" here at DK. I've written my share of emails and have called my senators Schumer and Clinton more that once (and I;ve called others too, Durbin, Leahy, etc) I've called Democratic reps in congress too. Working for the Dean campaign I have also written a lot of letters. I don't know their effect, but with the illegal action of the President I feel I must do something.
This time I am going to be sending something to every single Democratic member of the House - damn the expense. That's right, ALL of them.
First, I am sending a handwritten notice containing two citations:
First, I am sending a handwritten notice containing two citations:
Congressional Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The note will be a reminder of what they have sworn to defend and how imperiled the constitution is. Accompanying this note is a single square of toilet paper upon which these words are carefully written - "US Constitution - Please don't Treat Me Like I'm Disposable"
I think it's a good visual and a good gimmick. What's the purpose? - to express my outrage of course, but I think to bring to the Democrats' minds that, yes the citizens DO in fact care about their rights. According to Rasmussen's bogus poll, we do not. I am quite fearful of this presidential power and this "executive branch thinking" has led, ultimately, to torture, unlawful imprisonment, and destruction of human rights - not to mention the civil rights of Americans. I don't like the idea of being spied on, do you?
This will only be effective if others join me in sending them a single square of toilet paper. Will others join me?

Here is the generic address for House Members:
Your Representative's Name

i have tried to make this as easy as possible - you guys just have to buy the stamps - and tear the toilet paper. Suggestions are welcome.
This is my weekend project, so I hope to have my New York Delegation complete by Saturday afternoon, and then I am starting alphabetically with the rest of the house.
