It's hoof in mouth disease. Pat Robertson of the 700 Club is sorely afflicted. As are we all. Especially when we have to listen to him. Middle Eastern peach for the two peoples that the world loves to hate is on the line. And Pat goes on and on about ownership of the land. And it ain't a human, record the title at the clerks office. If I offend you because of this diary, I apologize. What offends me beyond all normal sense of right and good is people like Robertson trying to call down the wrath of God, as if Robertson has some hotline to the Almighty. I wish only the very best for Ariel Sharon, his family, his country, his people.
Pat Robertson has jumped from video diagnoses to declaring the battle lines in the blood feud over a piece of land. Hint: None of the feuders or feudees get to sign the Title to the property in question.
Naw, this time, God has spoken. Believers around the world didn't hear the message. Well, not entirely. Pat heard God. And God spoke only to Pat.
God has quite a voice. This is not the God of bring all children to me because we are all children of God. No, nononononono. Not this God.
This is the God of Belshazzar's Feast in the Book of Daniel. This is the "mene, mene, tekhel upharsin" right there on the pristine walls of the palatial dining room. "You have been measured and found wanting."
God apparently wasn't putting graffiti up to call Pat Robertson on the carpet. No, this was a more sinister plan at work. God doesn't like Ariel Sharon because Sharon tried to make peace. According to Pat. Only Pat.
So, Ariel Sharon actually went a good distance to do what the Beatitudes (remember those Pat?) of Matthew 5 set out. We are to be peacemakers. That's what the children of God do.
And the tragic health problems of Ariel Sharon? Pat would have us believe that a stroke, followed by a massive stroke, followed by an awful surgery was retribution from God?!!? God would punish a peacemaker with a stroke? Get real.
I believe Pat Robertson's tin foil hat has slipped a tad. The God of loving all of us as His own children would not, and could not, punish us so horribly by our performing to the best of our ability in the area of making peace.
Mr. Sharon, please be well. The world needs peacemakers. Mr. Sharon, you have been inspiring to all for peacemaking, leadership and care for the people of the Middle East, without singling out a single group based on prejudice and narrow-minded retribution and vindictiveness.
Too bad the same can't be said of Pat Robertson.
