If Dems want to win in November, they need to show how they'll END the Culture of Corruption, not just tinker with the lobbying rules.
There's only one way: Stop legalized bribery -- rip out the special interest campaign cash feeding tube with Clean Money/Fair Elections -- public campaign financing. There's already a bill in Congress with 30 cosponsors, and public financing already has cleaned up politics in Arizona and Maine.
Howard Dean supports it. John McCain supports it. Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano and more than half the state legislature were elected without big money -- just clean money from the state government, and $5 contributions from their constituents. It's the one reform that makes all others possible. For instance? Maine just passed a universal health care bill. Thanks to Clean Money, which enabled the legislature to listen to the people, rather than the big money lobbyists.
Democrats -- if we stand for anything, this year, we MUST stand for CLEAN MONEY/FAIR ELECTIONS. Ask your Senators and Congress reps to make it the centerpiece of their campaigns!
Because the Abramoff/Delay scandals will give us our best shot at passing election reform since Watergate. Because it will help us win in November. Because it will end legalized bribery. Because it will unstack the deck that tilts government to big money. And because it's the right thing to do.
