While Cathy McMorris-Rodgers continued to air her first TV advertisement touting her work to save Fairchild Air Force Base and protecting farmers, Peter Goldmark has premiered a new TV ad, and challenged her to help drought-stricken farmers across the country.
Failing Veterans
For the last couple of weeks, McMorris-Rodgers (who goes by just "McMorris" in her campaign literature and media) has been running a television advertisement which claims that she "saved and expanded" Fairchild Air Force Base, which lies within Spokane County and serves as one of its largest employers.
Lovely rhetoric if, in fact, it were true. However, last Monday, the Air Force announced 260 jobs will be cut at Fairchild. Of course, McMorris-Rodgers, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, cried foul for not having been consulted.
It makes one wonder what she actually does on the Armed Forces Committee that she doesn't know what's going on in the Armed Forces, even in her own district.
Peter Goldmark has premiered his new advertisement juxtaposing the McMorris-Rodgers advertisement along with the headline of the regional local newspaper (the Spokesman-Review) announcing the job cuts. And it didn't stop there. The ad then goes on to show that McMorris-Rodgers failed to protect veterans when she voted against several bills.
And is shows that McMorris-Rodgers got a 0% rating from the Disabled American Veterans.
A Short Break
I'm taking a short break from this diary to say just how disgusting the mainstream media can be when it comes to political reporting. Sten Walstrom, a local teleprompter-reader, just said that Mike! McGavick is closing the gap with Maria Cantwell according to a Survey USA poll.
While technically true--the gap is smaller than before--Cantwell now leads 54-42, with only 1% undecided (there is a Libertarian with 1% and a Green with 3%).
My observation? Cantwell went up from 53% last month. How is this McGavick "catching up" in any way? With a MoE of +/-4.5%, she's not fighting for a plurality, but a clear majority.
Lesson for the MSM: when the incumbent goes from 53% to 54%, the challenger is falling farther behind!
Failing Farmers
McMorris-Rodger's advertisement also says that she worked on the behalf of agricultural interests when she was in the state legislature and "never let us down."
Of course, Peter Goldmark is a farmer and rancher, so he's naturally concerned about how McMorris-Rodgers is acting on the behalf of agricultural communities. On his web site, Goldmark has launched a blistering front page attack against McMorris' failure to support drought-stricken farmers:
A petition (Discharge Petition 0016) introduced Monday in Congress would have brought a vote on a House bill (HR 998) for disaster relief in drought-stricken counties. But McMorris and others have refused to sign the petition, letting the bill, and Washington farmers, languish while they head out to campaign.
Goldmark says the needs of Washington farmers can't wait for legislative wrangling. "Our farmers are suffering minute by minute while Congress plays partisan politics with a bill that would benefit our farmers, our towns and our economy right now."
...
"The drought has just devastated many of our prime growing regions, including many here in Washington," Goldmark said. "These drought conditions have impacted fruits, vegetables, alfalfa and cereal crops."
Spring wheat production was 29 percent below 2004 production, while lentil production dropped by 33 percent and peas by 37 percent. The plum crop was at a record low production and apple production was down 11 percent.
It's great to have a candidate who actually cares about the people of the district, and takes it to the neocons who insist on distorting reality to support their electoral ambitions. Please help Peter by visiting his contribution page to take out Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (or whatever her name is), and complete the rural revolt!
