Why then am I seeing ads for both of these candidates, on WGN-TV?
WGN is the local CW affiliate. A good channel for
Everybody Loves Raymond reruns, but not political ads. This is the Chicago media market we're talking about, a market with more than 10 million people, 80 percent of whom live outside districts 6 and 8.
Markos has posted on a cheaper and less wasteful way: cable. With cable, you can target specifically which geographic areas you want your ads to appear in. You might not get to the granularity of a specific congressional district, but you can almost certainly do better than saturating the whole of Chicagoland.
And to be fair, the RNC is making the same mistake - I've seen their attack ads on the same channel. Still, they have more money than we do; we shouldn't be wasting a penny.
