I know this is a late hour, which is purposeful as I am sure this will not be a popular diary, but I feel the need to write it none the less.
I myself ran for public office this year so I know the rigors and struggles to fundraise. However, as a relatively poor person who took a 10k cash advance on his credit card to help fund his own campaign, I am really frustrated.
I am asked and pushed and prodded to give more and more money to candidates. I try my best, every year. I gave to Stephanie Herseth when she ran against Janklow. I gave to Francince Busby when she ran in the special election. I consistently give every year to those who hope I can help. I gave to State Rep and Senate candidates in my home state. Its never been much, but I have never had much. Now I hear that the party needs money to make sure we are as successful as possible in the midterms, and there is a push for those of us who care to give more and more. Yet, incumbents who have NO opponent are sitting on over 20 MILLION dollars.
Its time the members and leaders of our party share the wealth! If these party members care at all about the future success of the party and their ideals then they need to stop relying on the backs of those who have no money and need a change in this country to fund everything.
They are sitting on over 20 million dollars they could easily share with others to help win a large Democratic majority which will enact true reforms and assistance to the middle class help those who need it and stop relying on those who are hoping for these leaders to improve their lives and open opportunities to them.
That being said, I got sucked in again by another plea for money and gave another 50 dollars today to the DNC with their new pledge matching program. Just to be clear I gave 50 bucks today while carrying over 100k in educational loan debt, 13k in credit card debt (damn campaign :-) ), and still desperately searching for a law job (anyone hiring?). I am willing to do my part, why won't those members who have gained their cash on the backs of people like me step up to take our country back?
