The Kansas City Star is reporting that Missouri state auditor Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, will run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Jim Talent.
McCaskill narrowly lost the governor's race to Matt "son of Roy" Blunt last year, and was struggling with the decision as to whether to challenge the very-beatable Talent or wait four years for a rematch with Blunt, whose approval ratings continue to drop.
This is good news on the national scene in terms of recapturing the Senate for the Democrats, but there are those in Missouri who would have preferred to see her take out Blunt, who is wreaking unprecedented havoc with state government and its commitments to the state's poorest citizens.
