I'll keep this short and sweet, since I'm getting ready to hop on the subway and head to work before the baby wakes up...
My beloved wife's mother lives in VA and is a republican. No ordinary republican, well connected with the DC folks (father-in-law, actually).
Consequently, she is a virtual funnel of on-line right wing propaganda emails and talking points (you know the kind [constitution mentions jesus, liberals hate freedom, etc]).
Well, last night while she was talking to my wife on the phone . My wife pauses and says to me, "have you heard about this nfl dirtybomb? My mom says it's on the channel 5 news".
My first words, "propaganda!"
So we check.
Nothing on reuters, ap, abc....
Behold google news and the lamest, most pathetic attempt at election year fear mongering:
So what are we to make of this news that the Homeland Security Department has shared with National Football League teams information about a web site threat to explode dirty bombs outside seven stadiums this weekend?
Not much, based on how quickly DHS is moving to play down the information.
and more:
CBS) CHICAGO A dirty bomb threat posted on the Internet named stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland as targets.
Although stadiums are one of the few places up to 100,000 people are packed in together, CBS 2's Jay Levine reports that fans are not being told to stay away.
Sports stadiums have long been viewed as potential targets and strict security went into effect right after 9/11.
Football isn't the only sport that has been affected by heightened security. At the 2003 US Open golf championship at Olympia Fields, every fan was searched, items were confiscated and officers were everywhere.
But as of Wednesday night there is no indication that the NFL plans to increase security this weekend.
The Department of Homeland Security found: "... no credible intelligence to indicate such attacks are imminent."
Even the DHS isn't bying it....
sigh...
