Most of you are probably already aware that there is a place to call on election day to report any weirdness at your polling location -- or for that matter with absentee ballots now. Reports can be filed online at
voteproblem.org or called into 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).
This is the system that will be promoted by the NAACP, PFAW, and a host of other organizations, and seems to have many faces: www.nationalcampaignforfairelections.org, www.ep365.org, and www.866ourvote.org. (This has actually been the source of some mystery and confusion, as exactly who runs it and precisely why as such is seldom clearly defined, but I just chalk this up to a lack of PR strategy.)
Below the fold you'll find information on a few other initiatives, and hotline numbers for use on election day, where I could find them. Please lend a hand fleshing out this list -- the goal is to create a web form which will allow voters to enter their state and find a list of all voter protection hotlines or websites taking reports nationally or in their own state, along with contact information for their local BOE.
In addition, if you don't have better GOTV things to do, most of these programs need volunteers and I've linked their signup info as well. I have not managed to google any recent calls for EIRS volunteers... if there is to be such a call it will likely come via
The Verified Voting Foundation which seems to be deeply involved, and does have an open call for volunteers for other things.
The DNC will be running a hotline at 1-888-DEM-VOTE (1-888-336-8683)
AFL-CIO will be doing something, though it's not quite clear what yet -- It is clear where -- this PDF lists the states they are targetting for voter protection, and gives contact information for the program: http://www.retiredamericans.org/... and there's a phone number for volunteer signup here: http://blog.aflcio.org/...
In 2004 the ACLU Ran a national hotline via 1-877-523-2792, but I'm unsure as to the status of this line this year. In New Jersey, ACLU and LWV will be running their own NJ statewide hotline at 1-800-792-VOTE (1-800-792-8683). They are distributing these cards (PDF).
In CO the website fairvotecolorado has a webform here to file complaints about voting problems, and advertises the phone number (303) 839-4300 extension 100
According to an email that is making the rounds, Working Assets will send you a text message on your cell phone about any election problems reported near you that could use some same-day response. Sign up is here. It isn't made clear where the data is going to come from though.
As a sidenote, the EIRS data collected during the 2004 elections was very large. So large that there were even some interesting trends observable e.g. certain areas where election day power outages were common. The information is not only useful to lawyers, but as an additional dragnet to help understand where the most severe problems lie.
(UPDATE: To add Fair Vote Colorado from the comments, and the working assets information.)
