I just can't help it. Every time I hear or read another of Joe Lieberman's ridiculous pronouncements I get worked up all over again. I've been trying to figure out the most effective way to contribute to Lamont's campaign, and finally the obvious solution thumped me on the head...
I just sent a check to Alan Schlesinger, the Republican candidate in the Connecticut Senate race. We've all been talking about the conventional wisdom which states that Joe is basically unbeatable so long as he is picking up of 80+ percent of the Republican vote. Well, the easiest way to strip away some of that Republican support is to make sure that Schlesinger is able to get more visibility. He's pissed off at the deal which the establishment Republicans have made to save Joe by cutting off his own campaign, and by all accounts was effectively articulate in the recent debates about the hypocrisy of both Joe Lieberman and the Republican establishment.
Connecticut votes have been hearing about Lamont for months at this point, and most have already made up their mind whether or not they want to support him. I'm dubious how much difference additional advertising on his part can really make. But Schlesinger is pretty much a total unknown at this point - hell, many people don't even know he's on the ballot. He's got very little money, and even small donations could make a significant difference in helping get his message out and perhaps shaking loose some of the Republican (and conservative 'independent') voters currently sleepwalking into the Lieberman camp.
This was actually not an easy decision for me to make - it galls me to send a contribution to someone who has taken many positions I'm completely opposed to. But I'm desperate to get Joe out of the Senate, and I've concluded that this is the best way for me to help do it.
In case anyone else is interested, here's where you can contribute to Schlesinger:
