OK, so I'm not a big fan of Brian Williams, but he just played a clip of the new fear-mongering GOP campaign ad.
It didn't go so well for Republicans.
The segment was right after a story about how the tide was turning against Republicans in the Missouri Senate race. My favorite part was a clip showing Democratic campaign volunteers working hard while wearing "Had Enough? Vote Democrat" buttons.
Brian then went to a story about a new GOP ad. The segment started by pointing out the phrase "These are the Stakes" which is the same phrase from the nuclear bomb ad that LBJ used to scare people out of voting for Goldwater.
Brian said something like this ad is meant to scare you. He pointed out that it was similar to an '04 Bush campaign ad that used the images of wolves to scare voters.
Brian then said that the Democrats thought the ad was pathetic.
He then said that the GOP campaign spent a small amount of money running the ad because they hoped the news media would pick up the ad and give it some free publicity. Brian had a little smirk on his face when he said this.
I'm not sure the GOP thought the ad would be presented in the way it was. And of course, these segments followed a couple of stories about the unfolding tragedy in Iraq.
I want to commend the people here at Daily Kos who reported this ad yesterday and predicted the ad would be seen as pathetic.
I also had a weird moment because people here at Daily Kos were talking about how the budget cuts at NBC would lead more people to the internet. I commented that I often hear about things here at Daily Kos before I hear about them on the nightly news. It only took one day to get proof.
A culture of corruption demands checks and balances.
Vote Democrat.
