Over the past few days there has been a lot of talk about the GOP ad in Tennessee which plays upon pre-existing prejudices about black men and white women. Most agree that the ad is racist. What is not being said however, is that this is what we have come to expect from the Republican party.
It goes without saying that not all Republicans are racists, but I feel it can safely be said that all racists are Republicans.
Only Republicans could run such an ad. At heart it reflects who they are once we scratch beneath the surface, and what they really believe. This is how they think; it is the Republican attitude to life. They are so insensitive that cannot even see their blatant racism. In their world Blacks are hos, macacas, & people who take jobs from whites because of affirmative action.
This unconcealed Republican racism is being tolerated by both the media and the public at large. More to the point, most people seem content to denounce the ad as racist, and once done, they feel they've done their duty to speak out. . To date however, no one has defined the people who gave us the ad and those who disseminate it as the real racists. Consider this, if this ad were perceived as anti-Israel or anti-Jewish, you can bet your last dollar that everyone associated with the ad - the Republican party itself -- would be labeled anti-Semitic. The backlash would be so overwhelming they'd be forced to remove it. In other words, the focus would be on the Republican party and their endemic racism and not on the ad. .
It is true that Ford's opponent denounced the ad, (how could he not) and some members of the leadership have also spoken out against it. But this is lip service as the ad continues to run under their name, and if they felt any shame they'd pull the damn thing, so something is wrong here. No shame. They do not believe that this reflects negatively upon them.
Indeed some look at it as clever politicking. As far as they are concerned it's fair game to divide and to pander to the basest instincts of their perception of the electorate. What's even worse is that their disgusting ad suggests that in their arrogance, they feel that most people subscribe to their racist point of view.
These are the very same people who say they want to draw minorities into their party when they have as much contempt for anyone who is not a white male, as they do for the evangelicals. All they do is use for their own political gain.. It's an open secret that they are bigots at heart, and it is time that they are defined by some respected patriotic voice.
It's not enough to say the ad is racist, it must be said that it takes a racist party to run a racist ad. .
