I live in Minnesota and am glad that the DFL in our legislature has turned aside attempts to write discrimination into our state constitution, but I was thinking about the efforts in Wisconsin to do exactly that this fall.
I was thinking of Wisconsin because that ban has the slimmest chance of all the other states pushing bans this fall. Since I'm otherwise quite busy with school/work, I wasn't sure what I could really do to help out this cause in Wisconsin.
I e-mailed an Aunt of mine who lives with her husband in suburban Madison, Wisconsin. This is a relatively rich suburb, and relatively conservative. They are both.
But I was thinking about the amendment to ban gay marriage in Wisconsin that is on the ballot this fall, and while they know that I'm a lefty and we usually disagree on politics, I brought up the subject of the marriage amendment. To my surprise, this was their response:
"Believe it or not, we too think that that ammendment is stupid and will not be voting in favor of it. If gays want to marry who am I to stop them."
So here is what I am proposing, and its relatively easy to do. If you have friends, lovers or relatives in Wisconsin as I do, and although you probably hate their sports teams and Brett Favre like I do, send them an e-mail, or call them up.
Urge them to vote Against the Amendment to Ban Gay marriage in Wisconsin this November.

Then post back here and the Kos Community hear what happened. Good Luck!
