So I took the plunge and agreed to be an Inspector at a local polling place. So I picked up my supplies, went through the training, charged up my cell phone and I'm ready to go right? Well, maybe not. How am I going to go an entire day, a very important day, without any news about the elections going on in other parts of the country? Then I saw this diary
http://www.dailykos.com/... posted on Friday and my heart skipped a beat.
I have to report to my polling site at 6am and I probably won't be able to leave the premises until 9:30pm. Granted, I don't think Burbank, CA is a hotbed of political nail biting and other than the proposal about alternative energy and choosing a Governor, there really isn't anything that will hold anyone's attention. Of course as an Inspector in charge of the process, I can revel in the idea that the Korean Methodist Church on N. Brighton Street in Burbank, CA will hold a free and fair election, but after that, my job is done. I need to know about Virginia, and Tennessee. I need to know if Ken Blackwell will take the Kathryn Harris route and be rewarded for his work in 04 by being handed the position of Governor of the state of Ohio. And what about Kathrine Harris or "Pink Sugar" as she is so lovingly referred to on TPM Muckracker? And if Debra Bowen doesn't win her bid to be the next Secretary of State for California we can drop any hope of avoiding the "Diebold Crush", (has anyone else noticed how ironic it is that the first 3 letters spell out what is happening to free elections?)
So if you have a chance to help out with this project, do it. It will be a great way to participate in the process. Do it for Democracy. Do it for me and the other tireless poll workers across the country. Do it before I have to say do it for the children. I really don't want to resort to that.
