Hey all, check out a remarkably sober analysis of L'affaire Foley here:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...
and consider the last paragraph, which essentially nails the potential downside for those of us liberal who might go too far on the Schadenfreud...(Sp?)
1. I completely and wholeheartedly agree that Mark Foley is a predator, a potential criminal, and not the victim that his lawyers are spinning him out to be.
2. I completely believe that the Republican leadership was negligent, power hungry, hypocritical and just plain stupid in their response to this from the beginning.
3. I completely believe this has the makings of the freaking 'tipping point' that people say it does.
Having watched the Clinton-Lewinsky thing like so many of you, I also completely believe in the ability of a judgemental mob to go overboard in their joy over a politician's foibles, only to be accused of not focusing on the work of governing the country.
Forgive the sanctimony. I know we're not there yet, but I hope the Dem's can quickly hammer this thing, and then talk about why our party is a solid alternative. "Grand Old Pedophiles" is funny, but it's not going to win seats in '08.
Sorry. Consider it if you will, flame if you must.
