President Bush has a lot of explaining to do. He wants me, and the party faithful to keep Congress a Republican majority. Ya can't fault him for that, any President would want to veto only one bill that has crossed his desk.
I am a Republican. My stance on the Iraq war, conflicts with Bush. My stance on the Patriot Act conflicts with Bush. My stance on Gitmo conflicts with Bush. I agreed with the decision to go into Afghanistan. So far that's 3-1 on issues.
I'm also not a neoconservative, if being one means bigger government. Put two candidates on a ballot and the one that has consistently kept government small will get my vote 98% of the time. So I guess that means I conflict with Bush again.
I'm straying a bit here, and I apoligize. This cycle I was basically on the fence regarding voting. Rick Santorum, defintely not voting for him. Not voting for Ed Rendell but can't seem to get behind Lynn Swann. And now the Foley scandal.
The President needs to explain to me why Foley was not 1) Removed from conflicting leadership posts when this first came out. 2) Why he was not asked to not run again for Congress.
So now I'm in a bind. I either vote for some Republicans and send a message I approve of Congressional members being too friendly ( or worse ) or I vote for some Democrats and abandoning my smaller government principles.
Perhaps I just need to vote straight Dem, and then work within the GOP to get it back to the roots.
