There is now only one month standing between this moment and the November elections.
One month.
We the People have that rarest of blessings on this earth, the chance to make a change in our country's destiny. Selfless men and women have shed their blood to give us this right.
It is clear to all with eyes to see and ears to hear that our government, the world's first modern democracy, is
broken.
In recent years we have witnessed the installation of a president over the will of the people and a horrendous terrorist attack . Six years later, neither event has been made right. Instead, those twin wrongs have made us dysfunctional.
Here is what one-party Republican rule has done to our great land:
We have been fed fear by our leaders instead of being asked to serve.
Our air is dirtier, our water more foul, our health care out of reach, our jobs moved abroad, our tax money spent more on killing than on nurturing children.
The richest among us have forgotten their moral and patriotic duty, while the public treasury is placed in the hands of foreign creditors.
Torture is done in our name. We are being spied on. Both have been writ into law.
Worst of all, we invaded a country that had not attacked us, and we were lied to about why it was necessary. As a result, we have invited the hatred of the world upon us, and our soliders are caught in the crossfire.
We have one month in which to gather the righteous frustration of a just and mighty people into a voice that will be heard in the polling booth. We have one month to throw out those in Congress whose sole interest is in serving their own power. One month to replace them with those who would serve us, We the People.
Friend, have you spoken to ten friends about registering to vote?
Neighbor, will you take a day off of work to drive the elderly to the polls?
Citizen, will you turn off the TV and demand from those younger than you that they have an obligation to this country to vote?
Patriot, will you volunteer for a campaign?
This is our time. Behind every thought, every action between now and November 7, must be the thought "Have I done all that I can for my country, which has done so much for me?"
We have one month to gather an army of voters who will say "Enough! We are better than this! We are Americans!"
