There is a quote in today's excellent
Baltimore Sun story on the Kevin Zeese Senate campaign in Maryland.
"I support the views of the Green Party," says Kerr, an associate academic dean at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacology. "But I think it's real important for the Democrats to take control of Congress."
Ah, there it is again. Few hope Democrats take control of Congress like the Greens. The Green Party will always do better and grow when Democrats are in power, disappointing all of their followers.
When they are out of power, the mindset changes. Bad candidates look good. The Green Party loves to have the moderate and conservative Dems running the show, because then true progressives start looking for a place where they are welcomed, not tolerated.
Hello Green Party.
Even I, a committed Green, am torn this election. I live in Maryland and face the choice of voting for Zeese or Ben Cardin. There's no question who I think the better candidate is.
But Cardin isn't that bad. He certainly isn't Bob Casey or Harold Ford. And, the prospect of Maryland electing a Republican turns my stomach. So, if it's close on election day, I'll have to think about it.
The decision is much easier in the race for governor. Yes, Bob Ehrlich is awful and I hope he's booted out. But Martin O'Malley is another of those moderate Democrats who are more interested in pleasing the masses than standing up for what's right.
Ed Boyd, the Green candidate, would rather do the right thing.
Still, if it's close, it's a lot harder to vote for the Green even when he is much better on the issues.
As of today, I have no idea what my votes will be. Both elections are tight, with Democrats leading. But the Republicans hold the money edge and the gap could close.
The more I interact with Democrats on this site, the more Green it makes me. No respect for diversity. No tolerance. Just an overwhelming desire to march to the same beat even if it means marching off a cliff.
I expect more of the same with this, my last post here. The reaction I'll get, and from my other two posts, shows that Democrats are not interested in bringing Greens into their party. (I do want to recognize some of the more thoughtful comments, not everyone deserves to be tainted by that broad brush). Most Dems leaving comments would prefer to keep the Greens out, and if they could, ship them to Abu Ghraib.
Which makes my choice even harder. I really hate to reward bad behavior.
