Omaha World-Herald:
WASHINGTON - President Bush is headed to Nebraska this weekend to campaign for GOP congressional candidate Adrian Smith, a Republican official said today.
It looks like the Bush visit will happen Sunday. Neither the Smith campaign nor the White House would immediately confirm whether a visit is planned.
UPDATE: The Journal Star has details.
President Bush will come to Nebraska on Sunday to campaign for 3rd District Republican congressional nominee Adrian Smith.
The appearance is likely to be in Kearney or Grand Island, it was learned Wednesday. No announcement has yet been made by the White House.
An appearance by the president would be confirmation of the importance the GOP places on retaining the traditionally safe Republican seat in western and central Nebraska during this year's battle for control of the House.
Smith is locked in a tight struggle with Democratic nominee Scott Kleeb, who could be on the verge of gaining the first Democratic victory in western Nebraska in 48 years.
Earlier, Vice President Dick Cheney came to Nebraska to give Smith a boost.
Scott Kleeb clearly has these folks scared that they're going to lose a seat in a 75% Republican district. This is huge news in a key race for us.
On the heels of attacks coming from the Club For Growth and the NRCC, the DCCC has come in and stepped up to the plate on Kleeb's behalf. Now Bush is coming in to the most Republican area in the country to campaign. We've got 'em really scared. We are going to win in NE-03. And Scott Kleeb will be a great leader for Nebraska.
