Like many of you, I was shocked to hear James Carville attack Howard Dean and his 50-State Strategy, blaming the chairman for losing us seats in a year when we gained so many at the National and STATE levels.
But there's something particularly insulting for us Southerners in what James Carville statements. By questioning the 50-State Strategy in favor for Carville's ONE-STATE Strategy (DC), Carville gave the entire South the Middle Finger.
See, this thing's a little more personal to me - perhaps more than what many of you Northers may feel.
I'm in fucking Texas. If Carville had his way, we would NEVER see any money or attention come to Texas from the Democrats. In fact, much of the South never heard a peep from Democrats for years. And what did that get us? An goddamn anemic party that seems more Republican than Dem and actually
supports REPUBLICAN candidates sometimes and which will take YEARS to fix.
Then Howard Dean came in with his GOP Fortress busting 50-State Strategy and reminded the Party that it's not about a few states or even elite Democrats. IT'S ABOUT EVERY AMERICAN - INCLUDING THE SOUTHERN ONES!!
Howard Dean fucking gave me hope, Carville!!! And you want to take that away from me?!? FUCK YOU!
Every Southerner (and hell, Democratic voter) should protest Carville's stupid rant.
Carville just gave each and every Southerner (and hell, all of you) the Big Middle Finger - and he did something more dangerous than attack Howard Dean. Carville - and those "elite DC Dems" - attacked the very movement that got Democrats back into power: Populism.
In other words, James Carville just attack each and every one of you.
And why would you kill the very thing that got you power?? Because you are either STUPID or SELFISH.
It was inevitable that once the Democrats reclaimed power that people would suddenly jump on the band wagon again and try to grab a piece. But make no mistake about it, it was on the backs of heroes like Howard Dean, John Tester, and many other populists that the Democratic Party has returned to power.
DC Democrats had NOTHING to do with this win. They simply did not have the power - but that will not stop them from believing they know what's best for everyone. Hmmm, don't we accuse Bush and the GOP of that? Look where that attitude got them.
That need for power may explain James Carville's irrational rant at the NYT where he praises the RNC and criticizes Howard Dean and the DNC.
James Carville and his DC crew have been losing for so long, it looks like they forgot th basic strategies of war and politics
Haven't you guys read Art of War or stuided Napoleonic or corporate strategies? SHIT, haven't you guys played Risk!??
The best defense is what? A great offense!!
Every time my brother & I played Risk, he'd camp his butt in Australia and build up. If I let him build up, once he got going I couldn't stop him. So I'd swoop in with a small crew and keep him beat down.
James Carville and his DC crew created the stupid strategy to try to win with a few states and we lost national election and election.
Why? Because the GOP could build up in the South and then just run amok once they strarted moving. They mad the South a fortress - and they empty the fort because they knew no one was going to attack.
But more dangiously, Carville's ONE State Strategy (DC) really left the Party in a BIG hole at the state and district level.
Here in Texas, we have an incredibly anemeic party that didn't even contest most races. We will have to fix the mess that Carvill and his crew created.
It's only the past couple years that we've begun to see some life in the Party and put the GOPers on the defensive in Texas. Bush and Cheney and GOP heavy hitters were forced to campaign here instead of tough blue states. The GOP spent MILLIONS here that they could not spend elsewhere and Texas, like many fighting Southern states, directly led to the success of candidates like Webb and Tester across the nation.
Without Texas and the South, the Democratic Party would not have won the Seante. PERIOD!!!
And now we've got people like Carville questioning that strategy??
In attacking Howard Dean who came to power because of the strength of the Populist movement that has taken over the Party, Carville and his DC Democrats attacked the People themselves.
What an incredibly stupid thing to do - or an incredibly selfish thing to do. Does Carville really believe his crap or is he trying to show he has relevance and power?
It is clear Carville can be selfish and dumb, as revealed recently. It was Carville that undercut John Kerry's recount effort in Ohio in 2004 (Kerry in fact DID want to fight it).
What Carville is saying by attacking the 50-State Strategy basically is Fuck the South.
As someone living in Texas or any Southern state can tell you, before Howard Dean's 50-State Strategy, we never heard a PEEP from Democrats.
Do we Southerners (or Democrats) really want to return to that?
There is a real struggle in the Party today between the Old Guard vs. the New Guard. But "New" and "Old" have nothing to do with it.
It comes down to two fundamental beliefs: Should we empower a small group in DC & follow like good soldiers or should we expand the circle of power? Should we have a Top-down approach or a Bottom-up approach?
Basically, the Party is struggling to understand - and some are trying to control - the movement that got them back in power: populism. For any Democrat to attack Populism is to undercut the core strength of the Party - the People.
Such a Democrat is not trustworthy - whether it's his judgement or his motives.
I must say I really thought James was sharper than that. Did Mary rub off on him?? And, yes, I know it's a cheap shot, but so was Carville's comments on Dean.
Carville, take your sorry ass down to Toys R US, buy RISK & play that fucking game till you remember how to win again!!!
You guys have been losing for so damn long, you forgot the fundamental principles of war & politics.
I consider Carville the yapping attack dog of those Democrats who want to return the power to DC elitists. He's just the front man.
After the revelation of Carville's betrayal in 2004 and his irrational and ungrateful statements to the DNC and Dean, I think any Democrat who wants the support of the Netroots needs to understand that to hire Carville is to put yourself in a big hole with us.
I simply do not trust the man's motives OR his intelligence.
