There are 11 House races that are still technically undecided. Below the fold you will find a list with a quick rundown of the status of these races.
Let's vigilant in watching these races to make sure that all the votes are counted fairly. I know many of us are happy that we already have a majority in the House regardless of the outcome of these races. But every race is important. Every race we can win adds to our majority. And regardless of our majority, some people will have to live with being represented by Republicans in these districts. Let's keep that number as small as we can.
CT-02 Courtney(D) vs. Simmons(R)
Courtney leads Simmons by about 150 votes. This will trigger an automatic recount in this race per Connecticut law. The recount would take about 1 week to 10 days to complete.
FL-13 Buchanan(R) vs. Jennings(D)
Buchanan leads this race by about 400 votes. Recount is scheduled to begin this coming Wednesday. This is Katherine Harris' old seat.
GA-12 Barrow(D) vs. Burns(R)
Barrow's lead in this race is currently less than 900 votes. There will likely be an automatic recount in this race after the results are certified next week.
LA-02 Jefferson(D) vs. Carter(D)
This race will be decided by a runoff election on Dec 9th. While the seat is safely in Democratic hands, we should do everything we can to see that Carter wins this runoff. Jefferson is under investigation for accepting bribes and his office was raided by the FBI where over $90,000 in cash was reportedly found in his freezer.
NM-01 Wilson(R) vs. Madrid(D)
Wilson leads Madrid by approximately 1600 votes. There are still over 4000 votes yet to be counted. Heather "Nipplegate" Wilson is the one who cried over Janet Jackson's exposed breast. She is also on the House Intelligence committee and is the sponsor of H.R. 5825, the Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act that Bush is pushing to get passed in the lame duck Congress.
NC-08 Hayes(R) vs. Kissell(D)
Hayes currently has a lead of about 450 votes. There are approximately 1500 provisional ballots yet to be counted in this race.
OH-02 Schmidt(R) vs. Wulsin(D)
Schmidt leads Wulsin by about 2800 votes. Provisional and absentee ballots are being counted now. This will likely take about 2 weeks. "Mean Jean" Schmidt is the Congresswoman that called Jack Murtha a coward on the House floor.
OH-15 Pryce(R) vs. Kilroy(D)
Pryce leads Kilroy by over 3500 votes. Over 9000 provisional ballots are yet to be counted. The count is scheduled to take place Nov 19th.
TX-23 Bonilla(R) vs. Rodriguez(D)
This race will be decided in a runoff which has not yet been scheduled. While the total number of votes for all the Democratic candidates in this race nearly equals that of Bonilla, conventional wisdom is saying that this district is likely to remain in Republican hands. Let's see if we can prove them wrong.
WA-08 Reichert(R) vs. Burner(D)
Reichart leads Burner by approximately 3000 votes. It is unknown how many ballots are left to be counted. Washington allows ballots that were postmarked by election day to be counted, and those ballots are still coming in.
WY-01 Cubin(R) vs. Trauner(D)
Cubin leads this race by about 1000 votes. Canvassing is still ongoing. Cubin is the one who threatened to slap Thomas Rankin, the Libertarian candidate in this race, who uses a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis.
That's the rundown. Seven races currently have the Republican candidate leading. Two races have the Democratic candidate leading. One runoff race is an assured Democratic win. And one runoff in TX-23 where conventional wisdom says the Republican has a distinct advantage.
