We Kossacks have a lot to be cheerful about in the 2006 midterm elections. The twelve years of a mini Dark Age will finally be over when Pelosi becomes Speaker.
In 1968, Kevin Phillips wrote a book entitled "The Emerging Republican Majority" in which he argued that the emigration of conservative voters from urban centers to the suburbs and smaller states (ie "white flight") in the West would create a 30 to 40 year era of political dominance by the Right on a national level.
But now that era is thankfully, and finally over.
Thanks to the 1965 immigration reform law, the US has been importing a million immigrants a year, most of them, People of Color. As the Democrats have proven themselves time and time again of being the party that represents the poor and racial minorities, these new Americans have voted in lock step with our progressive values.
Let us heed the words of Art Torres, Democratic State Senator from California:
"Power is not given to you. You have to take it. Remember, 187 is the last gasp of white America in California. Understand that."
Live it, breathe it, Kossacks. As more and more people of Color come to America we are making it more impossible for the RethugliKKKlans to ever becoming elected again, except perhaps as a rump caucus representing racist, rural gun-toting districts.
By 2050, the transition will be complete, and racists like George "MACACA" Allen will be relegated to the ashbin of history. We can then look forward to a permanent Democratic form of government with perhaps the Green party as the only electable official opposition. Perhaps this will happen much sooner because of the much higher birthrate of immigrants as well :)
The Latino (71%) and African American vote (95%) in 2006 have perhaps helped create the beginning of a new, emerging Democratic majority. They share our values for gay marriage, affirmative action and stricter gun control.
Arriba!
