The rage, on this particular topic, really started for me when I saw a clip of President Bush after the elections, responding to a question about why Republicans got stomped so mightily on Nov. 7. He said something to the effect of:
"I thought the American people understood the importance of the economy, of our security."
I've been watching the comments on the right-wing blogs since then, and have seen the rehash of the comments Dumbya, Cheney, Santorum, and other Republicans who were so distraught, so desperate to maintain power, made when all they had left was to expel whatever it took to scare people into voting R. Quotes like this gem from King George himself:
"However they put it, the Democrat approach in Iraq comes down to this: The terrorists win and America loses."
But it was a little blog post that I ran across this morning that was the proverbial straw that drove me to write my first-ever DAILY KOS RANT!
Which you will hopefully read on the flip...
The blog in question was just launched. It's called
Campaign2008 and its proprietor, a one Stephen R. Maloney.
The post was entitled "Democrats and the Al Qaeda `Problem.'" In it, Mr. Maloney says things like this:
I've seen no evidence that Democrats generally (with occasional exceptions, like Joe Lieberman) comprehend the nature of terrorism or terrorists. As the recent election rhetoric demonstrated, a lot of Democrats of the liberal stripe think the greatest threat to the world comes not from bin Laden and the terrorists but rather from George W. Bush.
Or
Asking why terrorists want to kill us is like asking why Ted Bundy wanted to murder coeds -- or Jeffrey Dahmer wanted to do in homeless people. Essentially, they did so because it satisfied some twisted need.
I doubt many Democrats will grasp such motivations. I also doubt they have the spiritual resolve or political courage to confront the terrorists.
Of course, this isn't nearly as bad as some of the comments on some of the other rethug sites, such as this ditty: "Why are the Dems winning, get ready for happy terrorist parades."
Nevertheless, Mr. Maloney's almost banal by comparison comments are what set me off.
So here it goes.
Show me -- all of you Republican party-first, gay-hating/muslim-hating/non-"Christian"-hating/immigrant-hating, save-the-blastocysts but fuck the poor kids, Rush Limbaugh anus-licking rethugs -- show me one fucking ounce of evidence that YOU, and only YOU
(and maybe Joe Fucking Lieberman), understand what it takes to win this GWOT.
Where is it?! Because I have yet to see it.
Is it the Fs and Ds the Bush administration received from the 9/11 commission for its abject failure to protect the homeland?
Is it the decision to move the vast majority of the troops out of Afghanistan - you know, that place where the Taliban is now enjoying a mighty resurgence - so they could go be "greeted as liberators" in Iraq?
Is it the fact that Iraq is now a "cause celebre" for recruiting new terrorists, or the fact that terrorist attacks actually increased last year?
Is it the fact we are engaged in a war in Iraq that has cost half-a-trillion dollars, nearly 3,000 dead troops, tens of thousands of more injured, and is making the United States the most hated country in the world, making Americans all over the world targets for all of the terrorists being egged on by the debacle in Iraq?
Is it the fact that we left the central front of the GWOT in Afghanistan and went to war in Iraq based on lies - you know, those ones about the aluminum tubes and mobile bioweapons labs?
Is it that while we were hunting for those infamous WMDs in Iraq, they were flowing freely from Pakistan to all sorts of rogue states and individuals?
Is it your willingness to utterly eviscerate the Constitution - the very thing that makes us fucking Americans - because you're allegedly so scared of another terrorist attack?
Or maybe, just maybe, it's the outstanding support for the troops the Republicans have shown? You know, the support that lead the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America to give every Republican in the Senate a lower score -- based on their actual votes that affect active troops and veterans -- than every Democrat in that esteemed body?
Is it the sustained commitment of Republicans to push our troops and their families into poverty, so their families are forced to go to charity food banks for daily sustenance?
What is it?! Tell me. Because my fingers are getting tired and, from what I can see, you're just a bunch of fucking pansies - a whole gaggle of two-bit "patriots" who, in the end, care far, far, far more about your vaunted conservative ideals or some morally malleable definition of values than you do about this country, its troops, or its citizens.
Now be good Americans, and go get yourself declared enemy combatants.
