If the whole Congress thing doesn't work out for Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs-WhateversNext, she can always be a stand up comedian!
Yes, that's Gibbs next to our favorite pedophile enabler, Republican Dennis "the Menace" Hasert. One presumes she is giving him a high-five.
Shelley is the featured act in perhaps the funniest article I've read in the WaPo entitled "Lame-Duck Texas Rep. Gets Down to Work Without DeLay." Get it? Without Delay? I was laughing so much my checks started looking like Shelley's signature pair. |
Gibbs of course was completely clueless that reporters were laughing
at her and not with her (curse you, liberal media!). But clueless is the right word for Gibbs. She will be a Representative for all of 2 weeks (not counting recess when she goes out to play I presume) finishing Tom Delay's term before
Democrat Nick Lampson who beat Gibbs in November takes over. Just what the heck does she think she'd going to accomplish?
"I'm working hard to accomplish the things I'm working for," she said yesterday. "For tax cuts. For immigration reform. To make sure we have a good solution for the war in Iraq."
Um, Shelley. It's a lame duck session and most of the members are packing up. Fixing Iraq and abolishing the IRS sounds a wee (or is that WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!) bit pretentious, don't ya think? Give me a "D"! Give me a "U"! Give me a "M"! What's that spell? Even reporters weren't buying it:
All that? In a few weeks? "If there's a way to do it, I'll do it," she said, smiling beneath her bright blond hair. "I'm proud that the people of the 22nd Congressional District honored me with their votes."
um, Shelley, you lost. We voted for the other guy. Now I know why she's a dermatologist cause that's the depth of her brain-power. And forgive me for being mean, but Dear. God. this woman is going to represent Texas. Wait a second. This woman represents ME!!
Gibbs is why they invented sexist blonde jokes. And she will give rise to more Texas jokes long after her 2 weeks are up. We've already had an idiot for President embarrass Texas. Now we've got Congresswoman Barbie to keep the Texas jokes going.
It makes you almost miss Tom Delay. He may have been a sociopahtic crook - but at least they never laughed at him!
Of course Gibbs is doing this for the cameras. She knows this is a stage for another shot at District 22 in 2008. Gibbs will use any platform for her ambitions, even a special memorial session of the Houston City Council held to remember Officer Randy Johnson who was killed in the line of duty.
In front of his family, Gibbs hijacked the session for her District 22 race causing both Democratic and Republican leaders to denouce and walk out on her.
"I was embarrassed to be in the room with somebody talking like that," said Councilwoman Toni Lawrence, a Republican and one of the first to leave.
Someone who is willing to use an officer's death for her own political purposes will not represent Texas or Texas women well. But when you add her shallow aims to her, well, shallow thinking, you can only hope Gibbs' doesn't make too many public appearances in the next two weeks.
Any man who's lived here long enough will tell you that REAL Texas women are not dumb! They certainly are not bobbleheads that nod yes when the boys tell em to. And you sure as hell better not make fun of them.

Nobody would've laughed behind Ann Richard's back. Yeah, they lied about her, but that's what cowards like Bush and Rove do.
If Ann caught anybody saying anything wrong about her, Ann's sharp wit would've set that boy straighter than a broken bone after a good doctor.
And did you ever see Ann agree with a man just so that'd he'd like her? Please. Men were chasing for her approval. |
You want another strong woman? How about Idanell Brill "Nellie" Connally, wife of former Governor John Connally, best be remembered for being in the car with President Kennedy when he was shot in Dallas. But John Connally was also seriously wounded in the attack and it was Mrs. Connally who shielded her husband's body as he bled profusely.
Mrs. Connally survived not only her husband's assassination attempt but also bankruptcy and breast cancer, going on to create a fund which raised millions for research and other cancer victims.
But she never considered herself a victim. "I've never heard a self-pitying word from her," said her friend, Barbara Walters. |

Hell, let's be honest. Real Texas women scare the living shit out of us - and that's why we love them so damn much!
And that is why I can't STAND women like Sekula-Rodriguez-Fibbs and Bobblehead Hutchison representing Texas to the world.
They not only make us look like bigots and fools, but they insult every strong woman I've grown up with in Texas.
The women I grew up with were cowgirls, mothers, grandmothers, web developers, business women, teachers, project managers, and just ordinary women who took care of themselves and their families.
Friends like Cathy, a cowgirl, who tended horses when she wasn't working as a bartender or freelance web developer. She looked great in a dress or boots and jeans. She was a lady but if you ever pissed her off, buddy you'd better run.
Then there was Grandma, who wasn't my grandmother but that's what the neighborhood called her. She'd watch us playing in the streets and keep an eye on us till our folks came home. She let us get cut up like kids are supposed to but if we stepped out of line, she put us back in it.
And then of course there is my mother. As any boy from Texas'll tell ya, we love our mommas! And my mom didn't rope a cow or even grow up in the country. But she just went to work everyday, took care of her family and kept just enough of a check on her kidss to make sure we grew up without growing too fast.
If you live in Texas long enough, you'll meet tons of these women who in my opinion really embody the spirit and values of Texas. Beautiful, strong women who know their place - which is wherever the hell they are at the moment.
Texas women are like Mrs. Connalley or Ann Richards. They can ride up to the Capitol in the morning on a Harley, shut up a man who steps out of line in the afternoon, carry themselves like the classy beautiful woman EVERY woman can be at an evening party.
It pains me to see what represents Texas women to the world today. They are nothing like the women I've grown with.
But yes, you will meet the Sekula-Gibbs of the worlds and there seems to be more and more them. Bobbleheads who will do as they are told and whose heads rattle when they bounce.
I can't wonder if the frequency is due in part to the increase of fundie groups with empowering names like "Concerned Women for America" which work to restrict women's rights and control women's thought.
In an appropriately title, Concerned Women for America Decries Call for U.N. Women's Rights Agency, these women decry the efforts to bring equality to the world as a "radical" idea not worthy of funding.
Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse of Concerned Women for America (CWA) has decried the proposal saying, ?Lewis? proposal would dramatically strengthen the already-incredibly-strong radical feminist influence at the U.N., and it would virtually ensure that abortion would become a human right around the world. Plus, having an agency devoted solely to so-called ?women?s rights? would require an increase in already exorbitant funding for the U.N. from member nations ? especially the United States ? and funnel that extra money into the radical feminist agenda.?
?Anyone who has knowledge of how the U.N. works recognizes the tremendous influence these radical NGOs have through their domination of U.N. world conferences ?? especially those for women ?? and their behind-the-scenes expertise in lobbying for far-left reproductive services (code for abortion) policies.?
Wendy Wright, CWA?s President and, along with Crouse, representative to the United Nations, said, ?There are plenty of U.N. agencies and commissions that already focus on women and promote radical feminist agendas. There?s no need to create another wasteful U.N. agency just to give feminist activists a secure paycheck and platform.?
Yes, Wendy & "Dr" Crouse, these women were being "radical" when they were burned for honor, feminizing poverty, and raped.
Why would women be against a women's agency? How can these women say this about women?? What must their self-esteem be? How much were they taught to hate themselves before they learned to hate it in other women?
They thump their Bibles and rationalize the subjugation of women. And most dangerously, it seems they breed a culture where women wait for instructions rather than develop their own critical thoughts.
I'm sure I'm generalizing but I suppose this is what creates or influences the Gibbs and Hutchisons of the world.
As for Gibbs, what was her first official move as a member of Congress? She called for the House to be adjourned. Her first vote? To suspend the rules of the House. It was actually a mudane & common procedure to deal with an amendment, but listen to the mocking tone of the article:
It was a courageous vote for Sekula-Gibbbs. If she ever runs for office again, that vote could inspire a vicious attack ad. It's not hard to imagine it: The worst photo ever taken of Sekula-Gibbs appears on the TV screen and an ominous voice says, " She voted to suspend the rules of Congress . . . "
Grooaaan...
If it was just her, I'd be laughing too. But damn if Texas had to go through this again. The next few weeks can't go fast enough if you're a Texan.
And perhaps if you're a woman.
