Robert Novak has come out blasting Nancy Pelosi for alowing her personal preferences to get in the way of proper leadership. He gives the example of the inimitable Newt Gingrich as someone who didnt interfere with the picking of Tom Delay as his number two, despite his won preference for someone else.
Yet , we know where that led.
It led to TOm Delay becoming majority leader and to the most corrupt congress in history.

Its interesting to wonder whether this heated criticism of Nancy Pelosi would be one tenth as much if it were not that she was a woman.
Our culture has got a long way to go, before we give women equal respect and equal rights. My bet is that a mans decision to support murtha over hoyer would not nearly have gotten this kind of cirticism from the media.
it is being portrayed by novak as a sort of personal whim, only attributalble to a moody woman, who does not know how to exercise her new found power.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
If Murtha is to become leader, I believe that Speaker Pelosi will be vindicated very soon. Murtha will turn out to be a n effective leader, and Hoyer will thank goodness be back benched where he would cause less trouble.
The truth is, We have to brace for the subtle ad not so subtle attacks on Pelosi simply because she is a woman. But this also makes me wonder, how can Hillary win in 08? Or a back man like obama?
Are we serious in nominating these people in a world dominated by southern gentry and white men that will never vote for a black man or a white woman for president.
if the voters had their say instead of the caucus, would Nancy Pelosi ever been speaker.
