"Although Prime Minister Paul Martin said Canada would 'insist' on maintaining control of its airspace, U.S. ambassador Paul Cellucci warned that Washington would not be constrained.
'We will deploy. We will defend North America,' he said.
'We simply cannot understand why Canada would in effect give up its sovereignty - its seat at the table - to decide what to do about a missile that might be coming towards Canada.'" From: Canada refuses further role in missile defence.
Perhaps Mr. Cellucci didn't know about George Bush's stand on sovereignty.
Sometimes George Bush is less then clear on how he feels about sovereignty. Here is how George Bush defined sovereignty when it comes to Native Americans, "Tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. You're a-you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." -
Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004. If we substitute the word "Canadian" for "Tribal" in this last quote, it is not at all clear how Canada could lose it's sovereignty under Mr. Cellucci's threat.
But perhaps this quote will make things a little more clear, here's George Bush talking to the troops he sent in to fight a war to save us from WMDs: "At a decisive moment in the history of freedom, America once again turned to the First Armored Division -- and once again, the Iron Soldiers answered the call. You moved into Iraq in April of 2003, and you stayed for 15 months. You waged an innovative, disciplined campaign, and because of your skill and sacrifice, Iraq is sovereign and Iraq is free."
So, if it's not clear how Canada is sovereign and what it needs to do to remain sovereign, there is a clear path to regaining their sovereignty, invasion and occupation by American troops. Perhaps, while we are at it, we can also bring democracy to Canada while we are restoring their sovereignty
