Please recommend this diary if you think this is a good idea -- we need to act quickly!
We can turn this Kerry joke fiasco to OUR advantage in the closing days of this election.
We should produce an ad and run it, nationally but minimally -- the point being simply to change the debate and put Bush and the Republicans on the defensive, and the idea being that the news would pick this up and cover it extensively -- as follows:
(Announcer) John Kerry used a poor choice of words to criticize the Bush Administration, and inadvertently offended some soldiers and their families. Within 48 hours, he apologized.
(Announcer) George Bush led us into a war under false pretenses, which has to date cost us over 2,800 courageous lives and over $300 billion. His response?
(Bush video clip 1) "We're going to stay the course in Iraq"
(Bush video clip 2) " ... stay the course"
(Bush video clip 3) "Rumsfeld is doing a great job"
(Bush video clip 4) "Stay the course"
(Bush video clip 5) "We're going to stay in Iraq until the job is done even if my dog is the only one who supports me"
(Bush video clip 6-?, played with increasing rapidity) "Stay the course ... stay the course ... stay the course ... stay the course"
(Announcer + words on screen) When will George Bush apologize to the American people?
(Announcer) It's time to CHANGE the course, in Iraq and here at home. Vote Democratic on November 7."
This ad need not been run frequently; a few airings in a few key markets would be all it would take to make this the dominant discussion in the closing days of the election. Remember that above all else the press covers CONTROVERSY, and this would provide it -- while putting the GOP on the defensive; they CANNOT win if they are needing to discuss and explain what has happened and is happening in Iraq.
DNC / DSCC / MoveOn / DFA / etc -- take this idea and run with it!!!!!
