Tomorrow is colloquially known as "Turkey Day". While the big bird does have it's devotees in my family I think of it as "Pie Day".
Whether we celebrated the big day with my Dad's parents or my Mom's, one thing was guaranteed - pies.
At Dad's folks it was at least two pumpkin pies and maybe a pecan one. At Mom's we had a regular pie extravaganza. While not the better cook of my two grandmothers, Granny Napier pulled out all the stops when it came to her Thanksgiving pies. She would make pumpkin, mincemeat, chocolate meringue, lemon meringue, and sometimes another fruit pie too, just for good measure.
Granny Napier has passed on, and Grandma Allen is 90 and in failing health, so now I'm the "pie lady". We don't have a big crowd this year so I'm only making four; two pumpkin, one pecan and an apple.
With wishes for a "Happy Thanksgiving", and wistful memories of grandmas' many fine meals, vote for the pie that makes your "Pie Day" complete:
