Another fine day in Iraq brings another glitch in our freedom-spreading efforts:
American troops killed five girls, including at least one baby, and what the military described as either a boy or a man, when the troops attacked a house Tuesday in volatile Anbar Province after they suspected insurgents of firing at them from the roof.
...
"In a very tragic way, today reminds us that insurgents’ actions throughout Iraq are felt by all," Lt. Col. Bryan Salas, a Marine spokesman, said in the statement.
Look what those insurgents made us do!
Thank you, Lt. Col. Salas, for explaining that this reminds us how bad the "insurgents" are. Glad you straightened me out on that. Because when I saw that we had killed a bunch of girls and a baby, I forgot for a moment to blame the "insurgents" (or the "terrorists," "evildoers," whatever), whoever they’re supposed to be. For a moment I was thinking that this was just another sign that our presence in Iraq is making the carnage there much, much worse. But I feel a lot better, now that you have cleared things up.
Look what those insurgents made us do!
So bring on those pictures of mangled children – they're only further reminders that some people just hate freedom. If we can kill enough children, eventually no one will fail to be reminded that our President is right when he says we must not leave before we achieve victory. (What is victory, someone may ask? Why, victory is when the mission is completed. When is that? It's when the job is done. And when is that? It's when we achieve success. What is success? Victory!)
But you know, Lt. Col. Salas, on second thought, maybe a dead little girl isn’t really a reminder of how bad the "insurgents" are. Maybe she’s just a dead little girl. And maybe it’s time for you to come home now.
