If you listen to the Republican talking heads this weekend, you can deduce what they will be saying on Wednesday.
The most obvious message is that even if the Republicans lose big, they will try (emphasis on "try") to spin it as though they didn't lose, but in fact won.
I predict we will be hearing the following Talking Points alot next week:
1. The Party out of power always picks up seats in the midterm elections.
2. The Dems lost because with every thing in their favor, they only picked up __ House seats and __ Senate seats.
3. The Dems will just be obstructionists now.
The only Talking Points the Democrats need for next few weeks are:
1. The Voters sent a New Congress to Washington with a Mandate
2. This election was a referendum on, and a rejection of, the Bush Administration and their policies.
3. This election was a referendum on, and a rejection of, the failure of Conservative Policies overall.
Then Dems can get into more specific failures:
* Voters rejecting the Republicans culture of corruption
* Voters rejecting the failed war in Iraq
* Voters rejecting the unfair tax policies
* Voters rejecting unfair trade policies that hurt jobs
* Voters rejecting the Radical Right's extreme agenda
I expect the Republicans to base their 2008 campaign on the following:
* If we get attacked again it will be the Dems fault.
* The failure in Afghanistan is the Dems fault.
* The civil war in Iraq is the Dems fault.
We can deal with these by making certain the warnings from the intelligence community do not go ignored as they did by the Bush Administration in 2001 and by getting the truth out in front of the public as to how incompetent this Administration has been in handling just about every task they have touched.
