Remember when workers expected"
(1) an 'honest days pay for an honest days'work?
(2) health care benefits to cover them and their families in case of an illness?
(3) safety equipment where required to make the workplace safer?
Remember when, if your boss mistreated you, abused you or tried to fondle you you could jump up and say 'take this job and shove it' because you knew you were 'better than that' and you could find another job where they would treat you better?
Today's workers are in a constant state of worry that they won't have a job tomorrow even if they are giving it the 110% (the corporate buzz word for busting your butt and still worrying you aren't giving enough to keep your job).
Last week we learned that the unemployment rate dropped, but what does that really mean? Good grief, Republicans, looks like you could be a little more creative than that. When unemployment drops these days it simply means (1)More people have been looking for work long enough to become discouraged and no longer be 'reportably' unemployed; (2)More people accepted work whereby they are now 'underemployed' and not making an income that will enable them to support their families in their accustomed manner. (3) More people 'became' self-employed (meaning they simply had to find some means of 'getting by' and making a some sort of income, exposed as they may be, to earn a living as their unemployment had run out.) (4) Some other equally unacceptable arrangement.
There could probably be a case made that women are reluctant to report ssexual harassment today as they are afraid of losing their jobs. Every employee has to stop and consider the cost of their ethics. Look at Enron. Companies 'cooking the books' certainly won't keep employees around who report the 'crooks'. More and more companies 'let you know' by inference 'what is expected' of their employees. And, employees wanting to keep their jobs learn to live with their ethics being violated. It comes down to 'no ethics' or 'no food'. Corporate greed and corruption abound.... and money hungery 'corporate types' just keep taking from the tills. Now we are told there is the equivelent of the European Union being planned by the Bushies and the rest of our jobs will be gone south of the border. NASCO - A MUST read
NASCO-Napa Valley
Where did we lose it America? First, we lost it in 1982 when we allowed former President Ronald Reagan to fire the airline comptrollers without due process. Shortly after that, I had my 'reality check' as other companies followed Reagan's outrageous example. Companies started doing unbelievable things because Reagan had 'signalled them' that the administration was 'responsive to the needs of business'. Then things went from bad to worse through the Bush I years. Clinton came back in fighting for the workers except for NAFTA. That was Clinton's big 'let us down'. Clinton and NAFTA NAFTA - An assessment Then came the Bush II years and it was 'anything goes' regarding the American worker and abuse of power.
Now we are in this 'God-awful position' and we have to say 'stop it now'. First, we have to intercept NASCO and we have to get 'ethics' back in the White House.
We will make a 'giant step' for America and American workers by voting a Democratic majority in to Congress this election. If the Democrats can control one or even better, both houses of congress, we can control the presently 'out of control' White House.
Vote for the American Worker - Vote Democrat!
